    Advice on WW1 EK1

Gentlemen your opinions on this EK1 please

    Hello,

It looks good to me, nice detail on the crown, looks like "roll under" on the beading suggesting 3-part construction. Is the core magnetic? Are there pictures of the back? Is there a maker mark?

    Best Regards,
    Chris

The front looks more or less ok so far, but we need a pic of the back!

IMO it looks like one of the new batch of KO crosses on e-bay.

It's mine and it's a good one. All details are clearly pictured on the auction. The "new" KO's on eBay are the ones with flat crowns and the KO inscription done with a scribe or a laser instead of the punch like this one has.

Well, if that's the case then, if you can't trust a forum member, you can't trust anyone. Might as well go for broke, Hope my auction stuff sells so I can pay for this one. Now where is that BIN Button! Thanks Doug

                Jens,

Unfortunately, I've seen what I think are KO fakes. A seller on eBay, the82nd, who sells fake Imperial badges and US wings has sold a few. About three years ago, I bought a KO with a strange eagle-over-M marking above the hinge. The KO seemed to be inscribed on it, rather than stamped. Hard to describe, but the legs of the K overlapped each other as if they had been scribed in by hand. The K did not have serifs (typesetters' term for the little doo-hickey's on the ends of the letter legs) . I was never comfortable with it, and others weren't either. Charbador's (aka the82nd and/or dedub67) KO's had the same KO marks and very shallow core detail as if the core had been made on a punch press. The wierd thing is that the pin and hinge looked good.

                    Jens,
Sorry, I don't have a photo. These were being sold by sellers on eBay dedub67 and the82nd (aka charbador) and lately this guy has kept most of his auctions private so no one will contact his bidders and tip them off that his stuff is junk. Therefore, his old auctions are not visible by tracking down the links to his feedbacks. Keep an eye out for new auctions by these sellers and you might see one. This guy also sells quantities of the muffin crown 1870 fakes.
