Can you show the case without the cross in it? Looks more for a cross with ribbon, possibly an ek2, not for an ek1!

Yes, EK II-case or even a rebuilt case for a pocket-watch...

              Kind regards, Peter

I would say an EKII case from what appears to be an impression in the bottom section where an EKII was impressed you can see it in the above photos

Just my paranoia acting up but these "large crown, closed 4" crosses
make me nervous. While I know that good ones do exsist, so are there
some really good fakes and I can not tell them apart.

I personally would not own the cross or case.

I go with a rebuilt pocket watch case. In my experience, no jeweler making or supplying orders and decorations would paste a label on the base of an award case promoting his gold, silver and watch business. The label would logically refer to "Orden und Ehrenzeichen" even if the jeweler was just a supplier. In such instances, you often also see a second label from the ribbon manufacturer, such as Künath in Dresden.

Like so many of these imperial cases they started out life containing something else.

I still say a case for an EKII. The cross fits the impression made into the lower section and the upper section to hold the folded up EKII ribbon
