    A rather literary grouping...

After a nervewracking wait, all the while anticipating the worst, I finally received a wonderful surprise this afternoon...

Yes, an old book. One that somehow took two months to wing it's way from Germany to California. Not all that much to look at, but...

...one that might be of interest to a WWI historian here or there.

Granted, not quite your normal Barnes & Noble mass market fare.

...but to someone who has been obsessed with researching every facet of the one attributed ribbon bar in his collection...

Not often that books and ribbon bars appear together in groupings.

          Nice.

I think this belongs in the "long-range collecting" category. Is there more to come?

                Only time will tell...

I've found out quite a bit about von Berchem, mostly random stuff that would have never crossed my mind when this project (read: obsession) started. It helps immensely that he was a nobleman, as there are plenty of people out there that have hung onto miscellaneous bits of biographical information simply because of that accident of his birth. I've got two leads presently, by which I might be able to draw out some more information - the email address of a man that might be his grandson (unusual name), and the name (but no address) of the man that I know married his granddaughter. I'm hoping that I can get some concrete information out of either of those two sources.

I recently received a rather annoying letter from the Bavarian state archives where they outline all of the interesting stuff they have on him, and then proceed to cap it off with a dismissive "...but we're too busy..."

                It's out there, somewhere.
