In most of the internal shots of the cockpit area there is the word EXSPERIMENTAL painted on the inside of the cockpit. Anyone have an idea why?

Because they are not period machines but modern made planes and thus Experimental. In my country if a plane is not made by a licensed company but from a kit instead, you would not be able to license it LV-ICS for example but X-ICS and would fly as an experimental licensed machine

My thought is Experimental = Homebuilt Aircraft
