    Cross

Here is a clear shot of it in the sun light. The cross measures 42 mm. Anyone have any ideas?

      Hi Clif,

I saw that piece for sale but that was the first time I saw one. I like it instinctively and guess it's probably old. I didn't buy it because it was listed (and priced) as being made of silver, but I doubted that based on the photos. Can you confirm if it's silver or not?

In any case I like the piece personally; I think it looks old enough to be 100; but I haven't seen another.
      Best regards,

Hi Trevor it is silver I though about cleaning it but might take away from it. It is two piece construction and the back plate is engraved with the inscription no iron core to it . I will post some more pictures later of the sides well put together . It has a lot of wear to the face of it. I seen the ones for WWI with the inscription on them but not with the WWI frame like this one . He stated it was for medical personal . It is a neat cross . I like the inscription and the old style letters. I ask Kay to look at it see what he says. Cliff

Hi. I have not seen an example like this before either and also like the look of it. I think we can agree that there were pieces made for the centennial celebration. This could be one as well as some 1st class ones that have been shown here. Thanks for showing. TPK

                      Very interesting observation

Yes, it does seem to be the same cross in the center right down to the lettering, the period (.) behind the date and surround lines. Everything looks the same.

                          1813 cross

I did some checking with Skalphunter and the iron cross on his 1842 pickelhaube is the same size as the one on my 1813 iron cross . They used one like it in place of the iron core center . Thanks to OGGY for pointing it out . Neet piece of iron cross history. Not many of these around. I posted a picture of it in the frame I pick up for it.Cliff
