I found out that there are two variations in the material they used to made these crosses. Some are in fire-gilt bronze and some, like Claudios and Richards seem to be, are made of goldbronze. The one posted by Dave looks like fire-gilt.

I think there is a description of fire-gilding somewere in the forum or in the Construction Methods corner.
Goldbronze is an alloy of copper, tin and zink with a high copper content. But not as high as tombac.

            Thanks Jens,

In this case my cross is definately goldbronze!

            Ciao,

For comparison, this is a fire-gilt cross. The gold-plating us very thick so there is no discoloration even after 90 years.
