    Info needed

Any information on Seconde Leutnant Oscar Haunit, 7 Östpreuss. Inf. Rgt 44 ca. 1870 would be muchly appreciated. If you saw Detlev's update you'll know why

I have him with the same unit and as a Captain in my 1887 ranklist. The EK2 is indicated as the only award.

      Seconde-Lieutenant Haunit

      Tom,

not much I am afraid. Shown in the 1869 Rangliste as a Seconde-Lieutenant in the 8th Company of 7. Ostpreußisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 44 and as the Adjutant of the Füsilier-Bataillon of the same regiment in 1872. Interestingly enough, he is already shown in 1872 as the recipient of the EK2. 1891 still finds him in Infanterie-Regiment Graf Dönhoff (7. Ostpreußisches) Nr. 44 as the 2nd senior Hauptmann and commander of the the 6th Company. He does not appear to have gone on to great things. He never became an independent battalion or regimental commander. There are gaps in my lists but he appears to have retired by 1895.

      Seconde-Lieutenant: 09.03.69
      Premier-Lieutenant: 13.06.76

      Regards
      Glenn

Tom, The 1892 RL has him in the Landwehr as a Captain. The 1895 RL has him in the same unit as a Major. I do not have him in the 1897 RL. His Landwehr unit was the 62 Inf. Brig. Did you get the document. It seemed tobe a very good price even with the dollar doing so bad against the euro. Hope the info helps.

Thanks, guys. Yup, first "is yours" in a while. I'll post some scans when it arrives. Anyone recognize the squigglature?

If you look in Diermar Raksch's book, Prussian Award Documents and Authorization Certifications 1793-1972, published by Niemann, on page 315 you will see a 1870 EK2 document with the same signiture. It is identified as a facsimile signiture of Wilhelm I. I don't know if your is real or a facsimile. Ask the seller, but I would assume a facsimile, still a good price.
