Prussian Aviator Badge: Commemorative Pilots or Naval Observers?

    Hi:
Picked up a badge marked 900 on the back Appears to be solid silver and silver in color. An Sitting Eagle and sun on the front. On the back with the 900 I can only make out a C. and E., the rest is worn off. Is it a Junckers? References cite this as a Naval Observer Badge, yet it is not gold in color. Other references make this a Commemorative Pilots Badge. Does anyone have any ideas? I can send scans of the front or back.
    Thanks,
    Steve B.

    Hmmmmm.

I wonder how the lettering could have been worn off of the back, under the pin? It's hard to say from the angles of your photos, but I'm sorry, I do not believe this badge to be pre-1918. Details, are inconsistent, pin construction and hallmark (what you can see) are inconsistent with real ones. Should have a gilt wash, but that's the least of the problems here. My opinion, for what it's worth.

          .......in reply.

As b4 ..seem to have responded to old threads sorry !!!
OK it is suposed to be a Prussian Naval Marine Observers badge WW1, in your pics it appears to be pox marked ..cast ??? which would be wrong. C E would refer to junker ,but the pin is incorrect for this maker.
Something does not ring true about this badge i would be curious to compare with a known original as the size in the repros differ, they tend to be smaller.
Without handling or having very high definition scans it will be hard to assess the originality ..this is strictly my own observations and opinion for what its worth.
          regards
          Steve
