That is at least a good KO cross. The excuse for lacking quality in engraving and cutting out the picture is probably that it is made on board. During the endless pauses on the u-boat...

I would expect a nice & hot girl on the picture... not a picture of himself on his own cross.

And if his wife did that.... she surely would have used a patriotic bracelet or hanger, like you see many times available.
This cross deserves to be thrown in the ocean, a shame for the original cross, but necessary to hide the horror it was done too.
