      Hi Bobby,

The cross is a good private-purchase piece.

As for the engraving: it looks promising but I fear you won't get a definitive answer without better photos.
      Best regards,

The last word is "Kiel" not "Keil".

It is a town at the Baltic see (Ostsee).

        Regards

Since it says Kiel I guessed that he was navy and bingo. In the Navy Honor Ranklist is a Lt. der Reserve Otto Schweim, Marine Infantry who was a POW. I can't say the engraving is real, only that the name is.

The inscription appears as having been engraved by hand, not by means of a pantograph, and this is a good sign.

Fakers, when engrave namings by hand, usually spend their money for important names...

Better images are needed but I lean towards his being a good engraving.

I would also like to see some high resolution photos of the engraving. And close-ups too.

                        Very beautiful cross
I also have a good feeling with the engraving

There are people that can still engrave like this. We have seen it on fake flight badges. In my opinion you cant pay a premium any more for engraved items unless you know it's history.

Could you post close-ups of engraving?...especially the "Kiel."

                              Thank you.
