1813 EK1 real or fake? Opinions Please?

I won this at Berlin Auction Haus but I now believe it to be fake. Could I please have some opinion to back this up. I want to send them the link to discussion because I refuse to pay for it. Thanks in advance. Jeff Finley

Hi Jeff,

This piece is most definitely a fake made from a 1914 EK2.

This is a well-known reverse core design from 1914, but was not used before WWI (authentic 1813 EK1s have blank fronts anyway).

The frame is also not correct for an 1813 piece.

Now you might not get out of the deal - especially if originality was not part of it...

I made a big mistake and learned a valuable lesson. I will definitlely post on here before I make any more bids. It pisses me off these auctions even sell fakes. Thanks for all your guys help.

Berlin Auktion Haus is basically a clearing house and nothing more. I don't think there's any expertise backing up anything they sell. Therefore, one has to rely on one's own knowledge as it's a clear case of "Caveat Emptor".
