    ranking in awards being worn

    Dear Members,

please forgive me my many questions, as a new-ling on this forum. My next questions involves the way in which decorations are worn.

It already occured to me that the Iron cross was the most important one of prussian awards, followed by the HHOX. Would their be some sort of overview of the ranking of decorations, e.g. what foreign awards were worn first? I saw some examples of the Saxon AlbrechtOrden being worn before the OZL a.s.o.

    Thanks,

    David

For Prussians it was not strictly ordered how to wear their foreign decorations.
Some put them in alphabetic order, some put them in the ranking of the state (kingdoms first, then grand duchies ...)

Another possibility - one I've been told by a respected authority on these matters is that awards from other states were to be worn by Prussians after Prussian awards by date of grant.

As an illustration - I think the funeral display fro Rittmeister Manfred von Richthofen showed his Knights's Cross of the Saxe-Ernestine House Order ahead of both his Bavarian MVO & Wurttemberger MVO. and his Saxe-Coburg Oval Silver Duke Edward Medal ahead of his Hessian General Honor Decoration for Bravery.
