            Hello,

Has the fixed closure portion of the backside mechanism been replaced on your cross? From the photos you have provided, it appears that the fixed portion of the closure (top portion) has been replaced at some point of time. That top fixed portion of your closure looks to be flat in shape, and not rounded like the bottom sliding portion of the hook/pin closure is, as would be normal. Can we see a side profile photo of the backside, to show if that top hook/pin is round or flat, and if it has a notch in the underside of that fixed portion of the closure?

I'll attach a couple of photos to show what mine looks like.

Other than this, the cross looks to be in excellent condition. Congratulations on a rare find!

            Best Regards,

            Alan

Congratulations on finding one of the most sought after of the 1914 crosses.
I think Alan is right, it looks like the hook has been replaced. A nicely done repair
that does not detract at all from the cross.

Great cross and I like the mechanism on the back on this type!
                But what's the mechanism called?

                Best regards,
                Daniel

                  Hi Alan!
Good eye! I think, You are right in this case, and the upper hook may be repaired, but this seems to be period done, so it doesn't really make me sad.

Many thanks fir all the kind comments, guys!

                  Best regards, Peter
