In general there are no experts on this forum. Anyone who presumes to use such a term is an arrogant ass. There are a handful of very knowledgeable people here who keep the forum afloat on a sea of far, far less informed members. But, that's the extent of it.

I think Don's term "pseudo-expert" is the appropriate response to this word ever being used by anyone.

are all member of an forum allowed to make expertises ?
dos it add to the price ?
how much ?
how they look ,
what they cost,
and are they lawfully and legally founded .

(I bin told Nimmergut ended up in oughfull law suits after some time)

When I used the terms ' expert ' / ' expertise '

I did so strictly following what ' Langenscheidts Grosswoerterbuch '

stated :

Expert :

' one who has acquired special skill in or knowledge of

a particular subject '


Expertise :

' to give a professional opinion after a careful study '


You may now argue this as well .... feel free !

What's important though :

I would say that there are some experts on the forum. We know who they are as they have written very well researched texts on individual classes of awards.

I consider those guys to be experts. The rest of us are enthusiasts and collectors who enjoy the hobby.

I hope everybody passes on research/information about a cross that they sell on, this is 'expertise' to me. Otherwise the information gets lost over ages.

This doesn't mean you are an expert. If Herkules wants to call you that it's up to him.

What way? What benefit? We all use the information here, it's what the forum is for.

There are people on WAF that write COAs and of course they use knowledge gathered from many places, including WAF. A COA is not legally binding in any way. It's up to each and one of us to believe in it or not.

I think they are seeing "expertise" as some type of guarantee but what he means is it was purchased from someone he considers an "expert" on the subject.

I am sure that if we printed things in a language other than our primary language, messages may be somewhat confused.

Heck- it is a good cross, so I guess that is the main point.

I do, however, think we have actual experts on this forum. Deitrich and Tom Durrante (sp) come to mind as people who have written in depth and well researched texts. I would consider Steve Previtera and Andreas to be experts on PLMs. I know that most everyone knows more than I do, which is why I ask for opinions on items. In the vasty majority of times, the accumulated opinions of just the general membership has been very helpful and "spot on". Those conscensus opinons by very experienced collectors is what I consider to be as close to an "expert opinon" as one can get.
