"It was the highest WW1 award of Hesse.

It could only be awarded to a Hessian soldier who got the EK, was wounded, was decorated with the Bravery Medal and qualified more than a second time for the Bravery Medal, and was a long time at the front.

Must have been born and lived in Hesse.

Just 2,000 were awarded.

The "25" means that the award was instituted during the 25 Jubilee year of Ernst Ludwig's reign.

The nickname of the award was "Bluter Ludwig" (Bloody Ludwig) because being wounded was one of the criteria."

The stickpin is interesting because it contains only non-combatant awards like Ehrenkreuz für Nichtkämpfer.

Could a non combatant also get it?

Logically, No. If you read the criteria, you can see that one needed to be a frontline soldier or officer for at least two years (including recovery in hospital for less than two months) needed to have been wounded, holder of the Prussian Iron Cross 2nd class and Hessian Silver Bravery Medal.

That is the reason I am wondering how the stickpin is even possible that is shown here also, which includes Warmerit cross 2nd class without swords, Ehrenkreuz für Nichtkämpfer and the Hessian Krieger Ehrenzeichen in Eisen.

Is there an explenation or some non-combatant role which could fill in the criteria with non-combatant award counterparts, and that the reason for the awarding for the award ?

Simple. The non-combattant Hindy may be a mistake. Or, he could have been a frontline medic.
