    Need Info!!!

    Good day Imperialists!
    New medalbar!
    Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse, 1870 mit Eichenblattspange „25“;
    Roter-Adler-Orden 4. Klasse, letztes Modell;
    Kronenorden 4. Klasse, 2. Modell;
    Russia St. George 4 Klasse № 29950;
    KDM 1870/71 mit 4 Gefechtsspangen:
    VIONVILLE – MARS LA TOUR
    GRAVELOTTE – ST. PRIVAT
    METZ
    ORLEANS;
    Erinnerungskreuz 1866 „Königgrätz“;
    Centenarmedaille

    The first problem is the wrong place of Russia St. George 4 Klasse
    The number of St. George 4 Klasse is 29950.
    By this number I can say - this cross of St. George was belonged in 1872 to prussian sergent of Guard Fields Artill. Regiment Christoph Baltzer.
    May be Balzer or Ballzer. I have his firstname only in russian.

    The second problem - I NEED any info for this man!!!
    He had EK2 1870 - it's easy, but I think he was't an officer.

    Thank You for any INFO and a points of view!!!

    Hi Alex,

    You are still alive!!!!
    Niiice bar You have there! The bar does not say Officer to me. It looks like he left service as NCO after some years and went in the Civil service. Made there a "Officer" rank, inspector-Amtmann-even Rat-level and earned his Crown and Red Eagle there. Hopefully he sirvived until 1908 so there is a slight chance to find him in the Ordensalmanach.

    Best regards

    Daniel

      Hi Daniel!
      Yes, I'm still alive!
      And I have many interesting items.
      I'll show it late!
      Now my problem number 1 - Christoph Baltzer!
      I hope You can help me.
      Thank You!

        Officer-maybe. Although not listed with these awards in the 1886 ranklist, these Russian medals were given to @150 NCOs reccommended by the Prussian Crown Prince to the Russian general Staff for bravery in 1870-71. Many of these chaps later were given commissions as Lt dL. and a few were even retired as Hauptmans-an enormous social leap! The book "Unterofficer" details it all and later I'll quote from it.

          Alex,

          Is it possible to identify who won the St.George 4th class from the serial number? If this is so, where can one find the information?

          Thanks,
          Chip

                I'm sorry but I havn't St.George list.
                This list in the State Russian Military Archive.
                And it's no easy!
                All data in paper(in old Rusian), only few men can go and study this list.
                I can ask from the time to time some data for a few numbers of St.George.
                If You have some numbers of St.George I can try to identificate it.
                I'm sorry but that's all.

                  OK Alex,
                  I will give it a try if you are willing to see what you can find. My St.George 4th Class Cross(white metal) serial number is 217587. Can you also research names for the St. George 4th Class Bravery Medal? The serial number on that is 366633.

                  Thanks,
                  Chip

                      Where the #@!% did you find that!!!!??? I looked in every ranklist I have (ok 1886 and 1892)! Is it the 1908 Orderns Almanac? Justice Ministry? He was a Beamter? And a Sergeant in 1871-IN AN ARTILLERY regt?? (admittedly the most socially exclusive one)?!!

                            Russian Order of St. George

                            All,

                            Found this website:

                            http://george-orden.nm.ru/ordgrg1st.html

                            It is in Russian and from what I can read ( which are names and little else ), lists the recipients of the Order among other things. Hope this helps.

                            John
