    1888 Presenttion Saber

The Saber is dedicated to Rittmeister von Hartell 1st Wesphilian Hussar Regiment Number 8, on the Reverse is the names of 28 of his Officers. This is a Damascus blade.
32inch blade, 1 1/5 inch width and .23. inch for the backbone.

I am looking for a Scabbard for the Saber.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

It sounds very nice and I have examined several such Damascus pipe back presentation swords of this type. You will need to decide (if there is no date) if it would be most correct in the pre (1906??) nickel scabbard or the post 1906 blackened style. Either way you may end up having to buy rough hilted/blade donor sword the same length with a decent scabbard to salvage.

One small point- I doubt the 28 names were "his" officers as he was a Captain and probably a Company (or troop) cdr with maybe 3 - 5 officers in his command. If the names are in fact commissioned officers, it would be a safer bet to think that these were the other officers in his Squadron (Battalion size unit) as that number would seem roughly correct.
