Imperial German pilot & airplane album - sort of

One of my pickers came in tonight with a pretty well done WW1 airplane & pilot photo album, having both US & German it was really neat, but here is the rub, they were all "pictures of pictures" that is many were famous pics (Quentin Roosevelt, Red Barron, etc) and quite a number I had not seen before but they seemed to be from a set or a few sets of these kinds of photos. All glossy photos. Seemed to have captions that he wrote under each pic.

I need to come up with a value to offer him, there were probably 200 pics. Any ideas? My fear is that he thinks these are original airplane photos at $20-50 each.

    Thanks,

    Jerry

    Hi Jerry,

If you mean these are modern photo copies of old photos, why would you want them?

If you mean they are period duplicates of popular photos, like you see in so many albums, then at least they have some value.

      Thanks,
That is my problem. These are somewhere in between!

If I had to guess I would say these are 1930s-1950s copies of photos, I think they may have been a set, or several different, sets as he had referenced a number on some of them like P325, that made it seem like they were from a set.

I wasn't able to pull them off the album, but one said something like "aero photo service do not duplicate"

        Hello:

In my opinion these photos have no value as collectibles. If you want them for the informational value regarding the subject matter, then the value is comparable to having a book on the subject ($40-$60?). My suggestion would be to pass on these too-common copies and spend your money on genuine photos of flyers or planes. They at least will have some value in the future and in my opinion are much more interesting.

        Good luck with your decision.

        Best regards,
