    1917-1918 Ehrenbecher

I am about to acquire an Ehrenbecher "Dem Sieger im Luftkampf". It is the later 1917-1918 silver plated iron version. The plating is thin in some areas and I am concerned about rust forming. Where I live, things oxidize quickly. Would you recommend Renaissance Wax?

    Thanks

    Ehrenbecher

    Hi Mike,

Regarding iron goblets, I have an example from 1918, and when I got it it was seriously rusted from being used as a pencil holder for years. I lightly cleaned it with Autosol, a German metal polish, which removed the rust without scratching the surface. That was thirty years ago, and it still looks great.

Thanks ME109, could you post an image of it? I'd love to see it.

My concern is preventing oxidation where small areas of iron is exposed and to protect the silver plating.

Anybody have experience with Ren wax in this type of application?
