What are the white things on the uniforms of the soldiers with the steel helmets?

Chip, I'm pretty sure they are flowers pinned to their uniforms. Perhaps the sign they are holding up can explain why... I can't read it.

It appears they are from the Bespannungs Abt. of an artillery unit. Not sure what "Dir belietesten Sporeln" means.

I think it says "Die belie[b]testen" , so not "dir", and in belietesten there is a B missing.
So it says: the most loved / favourite "Sporeln". I have no idea what Sporeln or Spereln means.
