The Walter Schott badges are the original issue badges and were patinated with green lacquer, which seems to have either easily worn off or been taken off by recipients. There are arguments against the green patination by many collectors because most surviving original badges all seem to be bronze with only traces of green in the crevices which some believe to be verdigris. Although verdigris is blue-green and the green on these badges is clearly green only. Originals have shown up from time to time with significant amounts of remaining green which is clearly not verdigris. If you look closely, this badge has a few traces of the original green which is very clearly paint not verdigris. Private purchase solid badges were also made, some with a gilt finish by makers such as Meybauer.
