This Prussian eagle has small colored beads on the orb in its talon and also on the crown.

We believe the 1816 date is the date the unit was founded but we cannot identify the exact unit.

Trumpet Banner Identified

Hello Clayton,

My belief is that this is for (Nr. 7) Pioner Batallion (1. Westfalisisches).

In other words, the 7th Prussian Pioneer Batallion.

See the stylized "P B" below the stylized "W" over "1"?

The number "7" below the "P B".

And the unit's founding date of "27.3" in the lower left corner, and the year "1816" as you've mentioned in the lower right corner.

As a side note: the 2nd Prussian Pioneer Batallion & the 8th Prussian Pioneer Batallion were also founded on this same date.

Thank you very much for the information and positive comments about this Imperial era trumpet banner.

Checking on the internet, it appears that the 7th Prussian Pioneer Battalion was attached to the VII Army Corps whose headquarters was in Münster. The VII Army Corps began WWI as part of the German forces engaged in the Schlieffen Plan offensive in August 1914 on the Western Front.

This unit participated in the First Battle of the Marne and also the First Battle of Ypres in 1914. The VII Army Corps was still underway at the end of the war on the Western Front.

We are thinking about moving this trumpet banner forward but just wanted to know what unit it was with before we do.
