Cased Naval Observer badge, opinions please

Hi all,

I have the oportunity to buy this badge and would like some opinions on it. Sadly I only have these pics...
Its maker marked Schaper. Material looks to be brass gilded. The case is plain red with no markings at all and it has nice imprints of the hardware of this exact badge.
Whats your opinion on it and what is the market value of such a cased set ?

agree. It looks cast and therefore fake.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge the badge as cast. These badges were struck from the solid , the bronze planchet was heated up to make it ' flow' better into all the nooks of the die so this effect is often seen on these,especially Schaper ,several of my examples by this maker have this characteristic. If you look closely they are not regular blow holes but 'fault lines ' in the strike,(for want of a better word).In my opinion I think the badge stands a good chance ! Ferg
