    2nd class Zähringer Löwen Orden w/ swords and oaks.

    Having not purchased any Imperial medals in a few years, I thought I had finally shaken the desire to collect them.

    That was until I saw this lovely specimen up for sale!

    I have a good feeling about the medal itself, but really can't find any good information on the oak leaves. Any thoughts before I start squirreling away cash to save up?

            Well, pending any technical mishaps, I was able to secure this at auction. It's the most I've ever spent on a medal, but I still think it was a fair price considering what dealer sites ask for them!

            Thank you all for your opinions, I would not feel comfortable buying something this nice without the forum!

              Congratulations, you did very, very well.

              Looks like you're the proud new owner of a beautiful Knight's Cross 2nd Class award with Oakleaves and a nice original ribbon.

              Minus the commission, you paid about 1/3 of what you would have had to pay for a similar example with Barry on e-medals. Good for you!

              The White Falcon Knight's Cross they also had went equally as reasonable.

              Again, congratulations on this fine addition to your collection!

                Yes, I thought the imperial medals went for fair prices. I was hoping to pick up a friend for my Nassau LS medal, but I had to focus on my main target

                My jaw was briefly dragging on the floor when I was pricing these out on emedals, I figured I'd get outclassed by someone with deeper pockets. That said, I will have to wait quite some time for my next imperial purchase. I'm mainly a US WWI collector, but I've always wanted one of these. I told myself it's ok to purchase outside of my area of collecting because my grandmother's side of the family was from Baden, Baden.

                Whatever excuse we collectors can come up with, eh?

                  Here are the pictures I promised. The case is an unrelated civilian/jewelers presentation case from the 1880s, but it makes for a very nice display.

                          Even my daughter thinks this medal is jewelry and would like to have one (mine). And probably wear it as she has been to the Burg pictured on the center of the award.

                              What is the difference in appearance between the first and second class?

                              Were oakleaves awarded at the same time, or separate times?

                              What is the significance of the oakleaves for the first and second class awards?
