As you have indicated, there are and have been reproductions of many of the WWI era German posters for some time. I suppose the only way to determine the authenticity would be to examine the piece in person. It would be about impossible to give a legitimate evaluation from a few photos.

      Regards,

        I agree with Chip.

If you do have this poster in front of you, take a Loupe to the image. If you see tiny dots of CMYK...it's a repro.

I doubt he knows what CMYK means. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black. These are the 4 basic process colours in modern photo-lithography printing. The dots refer to the half-tone screen, the density of which determines the shade of colour. There is a screen for each of the 4 colours, which combined create all other colours.

Authentic posters were printed using stone lithography and therefore would not have a dot-pattern. The other issue would be the type of paper used for originals which would be easy to spot in hand, but impossible to tell in a photo.

              U-Boote Heraus!

There's some interesting information, and some detail shots (you can click and zoom in) on this link, which shows an original poster held in the Imperial War Museum in London....I seem to recall that this example is a two-piece poster, but could be wrong about that:

              All the best

              Paul.

                Hello Paul,
                thank you for the Link.
I think the poster which I posted could not be an original one, because the size is only 685x470mm.
The poster in the Link has a size of 1410x946mm.

                Regards
                Alois
