    Language question

Is there an older form of German that substitutes the letter "I" for the letter "J".

    Thanks

Can you give an example word as your question is unclear. Historically the letter "j" evolved from the letter "I".

Pauke, I believe I saw the word "JAHRE" spelled "IAHRE" on a mid 19th century medal.

Then I would think it was just the style of lettering used and the "I" and "J" might be interchanged or at least the "J" has the appearance more of an "I".
