Black wool backing on a ribbon bar

This beauty just arrived in the mail today:

I didn't really put two and two together until I actually had it in my grubby little paws.... Black backing. Of all the ribbon bars that I own, this is the only one that has black material as the backing. I know that the army traditionally used feldgrau and red, the navy used blue, and so on. One organization in particular springs to mind as prolific wearers of black, but was there anyone else who might be traditionally associated with a backing of this hue?

    Chris-

In my notes from this forum (specifically from Rick L.), black felt backing could be found on Navy bars as well as civilian bars.

I suppose since the HK confirms that this one is military, then that strongly nudges it in the direction of the navy.

      Thanks,

WOW! Rare combination! I never saw the ribbon of the non-combatant medal from Bulgaria on a german ribbon bar!

I'm about 80% sure that I saw it previously on a bar that Stogierick was selling some time ago. I forget what else it was paired with, but it was definately a German ribbon bar.

Ah-ha. I found it. It now resides in Chris Taylor's collection.
