    Hi Brian,

I think you are right. The ring attachment doesnt look original and the frontside looks also different. It might be a old replacement medal or a fake.

    Best regards

    Daniel

When I bought the bar #2 & #5 were not identified

#2 I identified as the Grubenwehr Decoration (Mine Rescue)

          #5 I identified as a Freikorps von Diebitsch Cross, 1st or 2nd Class (c 1919)

I like the bar because it has two non-combat gallantry awards and one combat gallantry award, which is rarely seen.

Brought up again due this recent acquisition. The "König" type with some kind of 4 sided rosette above the portrait.

                        confused

That is a wonderfully historic bar.I've not seen anything so significant for Africa before. There is just one question, though.I don't understand why his red eagle is where it is on the bar.Does it have to do with when it was awarded or why it was awarded?I'm very curious as I passed up a bar once because it looked jimmied and had that strange order which further made me suspicious.(I passed on more because my "zinc was fake",but he'd take it in trade for an 1870 EK where the date had been inserted into the EK as an after thought)

I only just read the thread tonight and I was referring to Adm.Looffer's group on page one .I guess 'cause I'm confused everyone should be.

Admiral Looff's medal bar is quite eccentrically mounted-- but there he is, wearing IT in his Third Reich portrait.

The Red Eagle should be in front of his long service, after the two lifesaving awards.
