Sorry, at present I don't have pics to show but I don't think I'd be able to get ones that would show this feature in any case.
Some time ago I purchased a rather nice 1870 EK2 and one thing I noticed with it is that it has a stepped core.
What's the story with the stepped core? Did all 1870 EK2s have stepped cores or was this attributed to a particular maker. I have a later produced 1870 EK2 and it certainly does not have a stepped core (I believe my other one was made around the time of the jubilee or perhaps early 1900's).
It is an obviously sandcast piece and my favourite EK2 - scans and pics just don't do these things justice!
