this is part of a collection recently inherited. Not sure this is in the correct section. Have you any ideas as to what it is. By the fixings, I assumed it to be some type of cap badge.The marking on the rear reads F L.

what size is this ??? i belive that this is post war possibly a helmet plate for the police unless it is small enough for a peaked cap.

Insignia

Andy,

This insignia is most likely from the front of a police shako. The horse motif represents the particular city. Unfortunately, there were many cities in Germany that used a horse as the town's insignia. I am sure you could probably find which city it was by finding someone with a period Assmann & Sohn catalog. There might even be a copy on-line somewhere that you could access.
