What is this? Düppel 1864

I found this in an old box. What is it and where did someone may wear it?

Size is 3,5 x 2,9 cm.

Hi Joerg, it looks like a locket worn by a loved one for a soldier who fell at the battle noted. Not an official award. Is the size about right for a necklace or broach? Likely where it was worn. Nice reminder of the cost of war!

I think it's a nice but purely patriotical item. How old is hard to say, could have been for the 30th, 60th... annyversary of that glory day in the Prussian-Danish war.

Am Sonntag, dem 18. April 2004, jährt sich zum 140-sten Mal die Tat von Pionier Carl Klinke auf den Düppeler Schanzen im Deutsch-Dänischen Krieg 1864. Pionier Klinke sprengte damals mit einem Pulversack die Schanze II bei Düppel und ermöglichte damit den preußischen Truppen den kriegsentscheidenden Sturm der Befestigung.

However it is not sure that all happened this way, there are therefore critical theories about the pseudo heroic Pionier Klinke.

I think that patriotic item was worn on a bracelet.

It seems that many people had this item about Carl Klinke, so nothing uncommon, but nice little item.
