I have bought recently two documents of one person.

First, is his 9 years long service award document.

Second, is his Patent to the rank of Ober-Militär-Intendantursekretär.

My question is about the two ranks, Vize-Wachtmeister and Ober-Militär-Intendantursekretär. What kind of rank is each of them?

Vize-Wachmeister roughly translates as a Staff Sergeant/Sergeant Major in the cavalry/artillery. The rank of Ober-Militär-Intendantursekretär is the title of a military intendance (supply) official which equates to the normal military rank of Hauptmann.

Ober-Militär-Intendantursekretär Strehmel, born 1868 entered the Prussian Army in 1888. He transferred to military official status as an Intendantur-Sekretär in 1899 with seniorty of the 4.4.1899 Y. In 1914 he was on the staff of the IV Army Corps and was killed in action on the 6.2.1917 during an air raid at Phalempin in France. Awarded the EK2.

The first document is signed by regimental commander Oberst Erhard Maentell.
