Ribbon looks bad.

By bad he means it's probably a reproduction ribbon. That's just knocks some dollars off the value. One way to check ribbons is to put them under a black light and see if they glow in the light. Pre-1945 ribbons should not glow, but there are some exceptions so the test is not 100%.

But the fact remains that as time goes by old ribbons are disintegrating so we'll have to get used to reproduction ribbons.
