    Help to ID medal

    Hi

This is another item from the collection I recently aquired. I collect British militaria and know very little about German items and am trying to sort the good from the bad.
Can anyone please let me know what this medal is and if it is original.
Hope this is in the correct section.

    Regards

    Andy

      Marinekorps Flandern Kreuz

      Andy,

This is a original postwar commemorative cross for naval personnel, often called a Flandern Kreuz. From the inscription, it appears that it could have been owned by someone from one of the Matrosen Regiments, See Bataillone or regular sailors (like Skagerack veterans). These seem to be somewhat common medals, but this one has a particularly nice ribbon. Most I have seen have no ribbon or an unmounted one. The last few I have seen sell on ebay (if that is any indication) sold in the $30-$45 dollar range, so this one might bring more with this ribbon mounting.

      Best regards,
      Chip

        certificate

        Hi chip
Thanks for the information. I have a certificate that I think might go with this medal. Can you let me know if it does and if original will this effect the value of the medal.
        Thanks
        Andy

          Document

          Andy,

Yes, the document goes with the medal and enhances its value. The documents are probably more scarce than the medal and though I am no expert on medal prices, I would hazard to say that having the document would double the price range that I earlier mentioned.

          Regards,
          Chip
