    Imperial U-BOOT - Schott

A fellow WAF member has allowed me to post pictures of his badge.
I would like others to offer their opinions or observations.

    A few notes:

    1. Is it common for Schott badges to have pins that are sharpened or pointed at the end? Most examples I have seen they are square in appearance.

    2. The serrations on the reverse are more vertical in direction than what I have seen before. Most tend to be more horizontal.

The attached pictures are a little dark, but opinions very much valued. Please offer your comments.

I see nothing wrong with it. The badge was help up lower on the grinding wheel to remove excess flashing. That is why the marks are more vertical. The pin appears to have been sharpened by someone. Perhaps the recipient had problems getting the squared end into the round loop.

Looks fine to me as well, slightly different pin and hinge than on my Schott though. My pin has the coffen shaped appearance on all its lenght and the center part of the hinge is less wide. Could be due to production shortage I assume.

                cheers

Peter can you post pictures of yours? Specifically the pin and also the hinge?

Darrell, I can't post images here, pm me your e-mail address and I'll send you a few scans.

                    cheers

I've noticed what appear to be two "different" type pins and barrel hinges on many Schott badges.

                        1. More tapered or rounded pin + the wider end of the pin that fits in the barrel.

                          2. Flatter pin + the narrow end of the pin that fits in the barrel.

Here's another of the Type 1 (if you follow this thread) with wider end and more rounded appearance. Plus it has the green paint quite apparent on the obverse.

The one Don Posted is of the Type 2 (again following this thread - and no accepted variation terminology)

                              Maybe a different timeline here?
