Study of TWMs - Unmarked Foreign Made

Fourth in the series, this thread will feature the most common Turkish War Medals that is available out there; the unmarked foreign made Turkish War Medals. I refer to foreign made as not made by the official Turkish mint Darphane. Foreign made Turkish War Medals has two country of origins; Germany and Austria.


This thread contains only the basic information on this particular maker, hopefully we can discover new pieces, information and new evidence about this maker and develop this thread.

Another Gallipoly Star for reference. Not sure who made it but somebody said it was probably an AWS piece when I posted it for comments. Hope its of some use to you.

Thank you so much for your addition, much appreciated. It is a great foreign made example of a TWM. I call those stars which has the same strawberry enamel pattern (or else) on the front as unipattern. This is by no means a universal term, it is how I classify them because some TWMs has different patterns on their arms ( twopattern) and some of them has the same pattern throughout the front side. TWM collectors before me might have called them with different or even better names, but this is how I will call them, please let me know if there is a universally accepted term for the same pattern and two pattern medals.

Sorry I could not add photos yet, but I have so many of those unmarked stars and making accurate photos is taking more time than I anticipated!

Here is a marked AWS that I saved from the internet. Matches with my unmarked example. There seems to be variation in the amount and location of the rivets from piece to piece.

I hope to owner does not mind as I do not remember whose this is.

PS. Rich I notice that on mine the crescent is also separate from the star but it just looks welded (?) on while yours its attached by rivets and so is the marked one. Also the central device is less elaborate on mine (no small round cut outs) and the 3 top legs of the device are still attached on mine while yours are separate. Could be just a "finishing thing" (better craftsman on yours?) which results in differences like you see on J1 Pilots (claw detail, leg cut-out) or possibly mine is not AWS after all...

Looking again at your example, I do not think it is an AWS afterall. To be honest I am not sure if it is original.

Why not post it in a separate thread for review or bring up the original thread it was discussed in?
