Need held: Identification Bajonett 98 mit Sägerücken?

    Dear collectors,

I need some information about this item.
Is a german WW 1 Bajonett 98? Was it in use in 1939-45?
    Thank you!

    Indeed WW1.

I don't think they were still used in WW2, maybe in The opening months.

These "sawbacks" mostly had the teeth ground down, then re-issued. Yours is original (and somewhat scarce). The shorter bayonet went into production in 1934, so I doubt that in 1939 any WWI bayonets were in use.

        Hi

You have a 98/05 pattern bayonet with a sawback edge. If you look at the top of the blade, forward of the saw edge the issue markings and date should be visible, for example Crown W 17.

As Waffe has mentioned, these often will be found with the saw edge removed, done during the Great War 1914-18.

As far as being used in WWII, why not? It is still a sound piece of military grade equipment, but if used, likely by secondary units, or even non-military units, Reichsbahn, local Police etc.

I agree with Larry, probably issued to rear area or homeland units, or for traing
