Cannibalizing an Imperial Medal Bar - And Then Selling It On E-Stand!!!!

Check out this ad on E-Stand:

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=764158

Am I reading this correctly? Did this WAF member take-apart a medal bar that survived intact for a century?

From the sound of it, this unfortunate bar ended up in the hands of a person who was merely seeking to rip it apart for his Iron Cross collection?

So... if it doesn't have a swastika on it, it doesn't deserve the respect a REAL collector should give to these artifacts.

I thought forums like this were supposed to educate and elucidate.

No. "I have recently picked up one of these medals on a bar with an EKII so am hoping to sell this one." Sounds to me like he already had the loose medal now for sale, then bought a medal bar with the same award. He doesn't need two and so he is moving this one on. I think that's a reasonable interpretation.

That sounds very plausible. In that case, I owe you an apology.

A lot of this still goes on, however, so medal bar collectors like me are very sensitive on this subject.

For the longest time I watched a greedy seller on eBay buy medal bar after medal bar. The following week the pieces from the bars would appear in his ads.

        That's what I read too.

Calm down. He has bought this medal on a bar and wants to sell this, as he now has an upgrade.

          Best regards,
          Michel

as an addition I would ask the seller in a PM as a "new member" before bashing.
Enough harm has been done by miscommunication and interpretation...

You don't say! I don't see any other 'sensitive' medal bar collectors losing their wig. Talk about going off half-cock!

Maybe the medal was on a bar without belonging there. I had that sometimes from private estates. People did not know what medal belonged to the bar and they just put a medal on the hook even though that piece never belonged there. Only a guess !

As a new member, you've already made a bad impression, as well as completely misreading the ad.

Cobourg (the seller) is a long-time, serious and conscientious imperial collector.

I think maybe you owe him an apology.

                    I don't know how anyone could misunderstand this;

"I have recently picked up one of these medals on a bar with an EKII so am hoping to sell this one."

Yes, I too would expect to hear an apology....

I know the seller rather well, and the medal in question, It is a loose example without a ribbon that he is now moving on as stated due to now obtaining a more suitable mounted one for his collection.
We both share the same ethic in regard to collecting which is "WE ARE ONLY TEMPORARY CUSTODIANS OF THE HISTORICAL ITEMS WE COLLECT. AND THEREFORE WE ARE OBLIGATED TO PRESERVE THEM FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS" So any suggestion of 'cannibalisation' of said items would be out of the question.

For those who have harangued me here is the bar in question.

I take exception to people slating me for a lack of historical knowledge or respect. Triad08, get your facts right before slating me in public. You are rude and disrespectful in short.

I have had the single Brunswick medal for some time and as I collect bars with the equivalents I wish to sell the single, if that is OK with you ofcourse. I`ll write to you for permission next time with a full explanation. I have been collecting for over 25 years and to be accused of this butchery is not only insulting but also outrageous.

For those who wish to see the bar I HAVE bought please see below.

An apology would be very nice please as well.

                        Jim

By the way triad08, if I choose to purchase items with the "stupid swastika" on it, that is my perogative

English is not even my mothertongue and even I understood the selling add...

Indeed, an apology would be the least..

I would like to thank all those who can read and who have stood my corner. It is much appreciated. There a people who replied to this nonsense of a post who I have dealt with as fellow collectors for a long time and they know the passion I have for our hobby

                              Thank you guys!!

                              Jim

BTW In 30 years Police Service I have been called many things (most I would not repeat on this forum) but never been called a Dingbat. Its a new one on me.
