Your sword is one that can be found in nearly all branches of the army, very common. could be officer, but IMO is problebly a NCO or enlisted pre 1906 model, Due to the nickeled scabbard.
Is there a makers mark on the blade or any etching? Would help with ID.
I love the knot, but we would need better photo's to ID it.

If there is a block (piece of re=enforcement metal) at the juncture of the P and cross guard it is probably an officer sword but we cannot see due to the knot. The knot is a Portepee for a Beamte and could be proper for this sword since it has a nickeled scabbard. As Reichsword says, we need more pictures and a maker.

Yes, an Officer quality sword with a Beamte (Official) style Portepee. It could have been worn by a state official or some Verein (association) since it has a nickeled scabbard.
