    Gas mask.

Hello, I found this gas mask in a old house, whit other WW1 German items (field bottle, baionnets etc) what is the model, filter looks to be from 1916). I think it can be an Austro-Hungarian model, thank you for help.

It looks to be an early field-made model. When the first "Gummimasken" were issued, the carrying can had not yet been produced. These early carriers were devised in order to have the mask "at the ready", that is, more accessible than they were in their carrying bags (Segeltuchtaschen). These early carriers were fashioned from the shipping cans that the mask and spare filters were issued in. Other suitable cans were used to the same effect. When is first factory issue carrying cans (mass produced) appeared there was no longer any reason to continue making these field prototypes.
