I used an online translator of the words Aus Grosser Zeit but literal translation doesn't always work here's what I got
    <LI class=s_before style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 10px">Aus Grosser Zeit (German) <LI class=s_after>From big time (English)

Grosser Zeit was a commonly used term to refer to the war period, 1914 - 1918. Aus basically means out of. It is a patriotic box intended for medals or other items from the war.

Most often these were intended to keep post cards and letters from the wartime. I suppose those sent to and back from the front, assuming the soldier made it back home to add his to the collection.

Here it is mine, used now to hold families and military photos from 1914-18.
Some people think they were sold as cigar boxes, but I rather believe they were sold to hold dear family keepsakes.
            Thank you for sharing.
