Imperial Regimental Pipe
<O</O
Here is an Imperial German pipe with two porcelain bowls for tobacco, both of which are surmounted by miniature spiked helmets as caps for the tobacco bowls (one needs to be re-attached).The pipe measures 33 inches from tip to stag horn top, plus 12.5 inches for the stem, totaling 45.5 inches in length.
<O</O
Below the stag horn mounting on the pipe stem near the top is a white horse. Below that is a six-sided wooden fitting on which the following lettering (as I am able to decipher it) appears:“Reservis . Reymer / Gd 1ien Gp rhein Train BHl / No. 8 in / Ehrenbreitstein / 1903 / 1905” (not sure of the order of this lettering).
<O</O
One of the tobacco bowls bears on the front the lettering: “Res. Gf. Regmer. / 8 / Parole / Heimat / 1905 / 1907 /Hoch leben die Reservisten der 2. Comp.” On the reverse is: “Ersatz d. 2.Co. Tr. Batt. No. 8 / Ehrenbreitstein 1905/07” and below that the family names of 33 Reservisten.Below that is the name in signature format, “P. Muhlfeld”, presumably the maker of the porcelain bowl.
<O</O
The second bowl has lettering on the front: “Kudtger Regmer. / Hoch lebe das Rhein Train Btll 8 /Gott mit uns”.On the reverse is: “Das beste Wappen in der Welt / Ist der Pflug im Ackerfeld” / Zum / Geburtstage gew. / von. m. Bruder / Paulus u. Gerhard /b. d. 1 Comp. rhein /Train btll er. /8 in /Ehrenbreitstein / 1905 “.Below that is another signature by a different maker.
<O</O
I am presuming that this was a cavalry regiment based in the Rheinland at Ehrenbreitstein fortress across from <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Koblenz on the Rhine River.
