    Waht does "Garde" mean?

I see alot of times the designation of "GArde" in front of different unit types. Were Garde unit special or something? I'm not really up on the difference between units like infantry, fussilier, ulan, hussar, etc.

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Guards

    Dan,

simply put they were Guards units, historically in European armies, regiments that were originally the personal Guards regiments of ruling sovereigns and the like. In the case of the Prussian Army, just about all branches of the service were represented in the Guards Army Corps. The British army stll has five regiments (battalions) of foot Guards.

    Regards
    Glenn

That's what I thought. I appreciate the clarification.
