    Bavarian pilot badge

    Hi guys

Today I was very fortunate to pick up this Bavarian pilot badge. For me the very first one that crossed my path. The very identical construction, material and set up that can be seen on the normal WW1 pilot badges.

    Hope you guys like it!

I'd have to opine that it is a Juncker made badge.

Interesting. Has Juncker been positively identified as the elusive 'square punch' maker?

      cheers

The maker of this badge, "square punch" mark, has yet to be identified.

I don't think that is a square punch mark but Giel can tell us for sure. CB's book shows this design as being C E Juncker.

Nice badge, was it at the show in La Gleize?

            Best regards,
            Michel

After the initial joy of seeing this rare badge passed and I was able to consult with both Carsten's and Stephen's excellent volumes I must say that the details of it do not match with any known originals IMO.

              cheers

The style of manufacture, material used, pin, hinge and hook match some original 101% Prussian pilot badges that I have seen and handled.

Although none of the Prussian ones had a cut-out crown. However, that is a feature unique to some Bavarian pilot badges that I have seen in period photographs.

Based on images alone because I am unable to hold the badge in hand, the patina & wear look good.

Will be interesting to see what others think,

                Chris

Is this badge posted elsewhere with different pics?

                  cheers

                    Hi guys

                    Thanks for the replies here.

Although there is no solid proof I also agree with Don here. The material and set up which was used here can be seen also on the Spanish condor PAB and very early WW2 nickel silver PAB's. It looks like one can draw a line in this production, carefully though...

@Matt, this maker has nothing to do at all with the square maker, you are comparing apples to pears! Also, please share with us with what kind of badges you have compared this badge to in the books.
                    Kind regards,
                    Giel

Can you give us a close-up of the top of the pin. By the 'top' I mean the part closest to the hinge.

                      cheers

                        Giel,

I believe what some of us are referring to is what appears to be a "square punch" mark at the top of the pin near the hinge. Is that a punch mark? Can you provide clue sup pictures?

                          Hi Giel,

that's a nice Bavarian pilot badge.
Love the untouched patina on that one.

Looks like a C.E. Juncker firm produced issued Bavarian pilots badge. I have never seen one like this but I do like the badge. The construction, detail, and patina point to a genuine piece .
