Mechlenburg-Schwerin 1st Class, opinions please...

I just received this and I was wondering if anyone knew the maker. Possibly Zimmermann? It's slightly vaulted, looks like it was done by the recipient. I have read that there were only (26) recipients of this Merit Cross. Is this true? This looks like a cross that has had some use.

Hi Robert,

A nice wartime example. I don't think the maker is known definitively.

As for award numbers, thousands to tens of thousands would be more realistic.

Where did 26 come from?! If so, I've got about 1/3 of them!!

It was surely awarded a few 1000 times.

I have a few of these, all the same maker and all are slightly convex so I don't think it was hand done.

I don't know the maker either, unfortunately.

Zimmermann as maker is correct.
Only around 3000 1st classes are arwarded.
