    WWI German tunic question..

I had a chance to look at this tunic last July while we were in Germany. It has been offered to me this weekend. I appeared to be in nice condition but did have a some minor moth damage to it. Guess I would too if I was that old. I am not up on prices and such and would like any thoughts about this tunic and approx value if possilble. Thanks Mike

Seems to be a nice tunic for the 6. Badisches Inf. Regt. Kaiser Friedrich III Nr. 114, part of the XIV Armeekorp. I don't have a great deal of pricing experience for pre-war tunics, but I would guess the going price would be under $500.

    Regards

Thanks for the commets Dave, that helps a lot. What time frame would this tunic been worn and would the hat be hard to come by? Mike

Although the regiment was created in 1867, I think it would have been worn from the 1890s up until the war in 1914. Check with your seller; there should be issue stamps inside the tunic to help date it. You would probably want to get a nice EM schirmmutze, which is not very hard to find, and not that expensive ($175 - $250). Depending on whether the tunic is dated, the cap will have either a single state cockade on the band "pre-1897" or the addtion of the national cockade "post-1897". You may also need to get a baden cockade for your cap. If you think you may need one, PM me.
