    Knowledgeable opinions sought..

Fellow forum members. I've been offered a lyra-glockenspiel and have some serious doubts about the originality of the top adornments on this instrument. First of all, I would expect to see a one-piece eagle/eagle clutching lightning bolts on such an instrument. Without even examining whether the (two piece) adornment are original to the period, they are - in my opinion -completely disproportionately sized (the bolts being greatly oversized). I think the eagle may perhaps be a repro GdC helmet insignia. The quality of both pieces strikes me as "reproduction" and the eagle as "obvious reproduction. "

But, I am looking for a reality check here! I would appreciate knowledgeable opinions.

FYI, the instrument is not in question....just the uppermost eagle/lightning bolts adornments.

    Thanks!

    Shawn

I do know these items are still made in Germany I was at music trade-show in Frankfurt and saw these still being made...You may want to do some type of Google search.. I did not pick up a catalog when I was there on these...There was a couple of companies there with different designs..
The one pictured is not old.. Check this out.....http://www.glockenspiel-lippert.de/schellenbaum.html

            Yes

Thanks for your reply. You are right, and I suspect that this is one of the new ones.

Josef Klier, a long-standing, German musical instrument maker, continues to make lyra-glockenspiele and schellenbaume. And, one of more of these does use the Imperial style eagle. I don't have a detail shot, but here is an image snatched from their website.
