Ernst August 2nd class medals for review

Im skeptical about this 2nd class EA medal... a few details jump out at me.

IE. grind marks on edges, ring for ribbon, were these not made of bronze?.

But, as I am not very knowledgable about these I was hoping members can help educate.
    Any insight is appreciated!

EA cross on the left I feel is an original, one on the right is in question

No medals were harmed in the production of this post.

I had the same thoughts about the pliers.... be a shame to mar the finish on these crosses. If I had nothing but pliers I would have wrapped the jaws with tape or something so not to mar the finish

              Gentleman, point taken.

Going by the butt-pucker my Leatherman pliers caused, I'll presume both crosses are good.

Were 2nd class non-combatant and combatant EA crosses made of different materials?
