    Royal family china pieces ?

I've seen pieces of table china from the Kaiser's yacht and home sets. Various pieces, plates, etc, commanding a significant amount.

Found a plate with a dealer I want of a lower level royal family member but totally out of my element.

Can anyone point me to an article or book on the topic ? I'm clueless if such things are worth $200 or $2000.

I'd assume the Kaiser's china pieces would command the most, but no idea how to know if overpaying for a piece from one of his married children. As price is over 1K I'd at least like to know if in the correct range.

    Any direction appreciated.

Hi Mark, I may be able to share a bit of intel, I collect china as a separate hobby but there is some cross over.

I am in the process of moving and in my stuff in New York I have many back auction catalogues where top European royalty china came up. The reality is around 1900 there were many royal houses all over Europe and they all had fine china. I saw a lot of kaiser china and silver get sold off and it comes up a lot. A lot of Russian royal china is around. So royal china is around and usually commands maybe 25-50% more than if it wasn't marked with a royal coat of arms except Russian royal pieces where rich Russians will pay triple for tsar connected items.

The real question is who is the maker of the plate u are looking to buy? Sevres and Meissen are the top makers, also nymphenburg - the English royals love Chelsea - which can be very pricey. I am guessing ur plate is a Meissen and as a single plate, even with a royal coat of arms on it, I would suggest, without seeing a photo, in the range of $700 to 900 tops, and $900 would be a top condition large plate with a very attractive coat of arms. I have seen good sets of 20 pieces with nice old German royal coats of arms go for $5000 so maybe your plate is in the $700 range. Some plates have fine hand painted patterns, these can go for more and Sevres plates can go for big money. If u have a photo I'd like to see it. All the best, David aka Kersten
