Cutout Silver WB

Just want to show my lastest additions to the collection: Two woundbadges: A cutout silver, buntmetall and a black one, iron.

I've already got a black one and a silver one. The black one has a different type of helmet then the badge above, more similar to the one on the cutout silver.

The plan is to get a cutout in black, a "standard" in gold and a cutout in gold. (can be cuite tricky with the two last ones right?) What other variations are the on woundbadges? I know there are WB's for the Navy and also WB's with screwback but apart from that I dont know anything else about variations. Is there such a thing as a book about Woundbadges?


Well, when Im at it maybe I should ask: The seller also has this buntmetall WB for sale. Listed as silver but it looks more like gold to me. Am I right or wrong?

Hi HBH,

There are some books on Wound Badges, but not many.

"Germna Wound Badges" by William E Hamelman is probably the main one. You can probably pick up a copy for US$20 on eBay.

Rolf Michaelis put out a small softcover book called "Die Verwundetenabzeichen" - German language, part of the Deutsche Auszeichnungen series. This can also be found on eBay every so often.

More recently, I've seen a new book in Italian but I don't know how good it is - postage was something like US$30 so I didn't go for it.

Detlev's catalogues give the basic values of some of the variants - cut-outs, screwbacks, 800 silver examples and Naval.

Re the buntmetal Wound Badge, it looks like a silver grade produced from tombac - the finish is worn off the helmet and some of the high points, giving it a gold appearance, but the finish in the recesses is silver.

Hello Mike, perhaps you have misread, but my english is so bad. I speak french and german, but english...
Therefore, the book: the book is a 160 pages, soft cover volume, showing in 82 colour photos types, variations, miniatures, pins of german WWI wound badge.

Moreover, 52 differents authorization documents (Urkunden, Besitz-zeugnis) with unit history.

I have some difficulties in images posting; no aid in FAQ.
